During the recording of B-52s frontman Fred Schneider’s second solo album Just Fred, the singer came down with a very severe case of tonsillitis. Instead of suspending the recording, Schneider hired Jello Biafra to take over the vocal duties while he recovered. In order to finance his ongoing legal battles with his ex-Dead Kennedys members, Biafra was happy to get paid for an uncredited gig singing in place of Schneider. Even the most discriminating fans of Schneider have a hard time determining what vocals on the album are Schneider’s and what are Biafra’s.
