FACT: This classic SNL sketch was Reid Carolin’s sole inspiration for the Magic Mike screenplay.

Before Will Ferrell joined the cast of Saturday Night Live, he spent some time drumming for Red Hot Chili Peppers. Note the long hair in this picture. Lorne Michaels made Will cut it before he could go on camera.

The SNL sketch “More Cowbell” was inspired by a recording session of the downtown NY cult band Liquid Liquid. The writers changed the band to Blue Oyster Cult because it would be more accessible to the SNL audience.
